ANOTHER LOOK AT PROGRESS SO FAR

Here's another look at the progress made last weekend by volunteers working on the frames and motion of No.5 while the snow fell outside; excellent progress is now being made.  Please note there will be NO volunteer activity on site this weekend and we will be keeping the blog updated when the next group activity will be taking place.  

VOLUNTEER DAY SATURDAY 19th FEBRUARY

 There was another working group for Association volunteers at Port St. Mary in the goods shed yesterday when work continued on the frames of No.5 ahead of the boiler being reunited with them; work again focused below footplate level, running plates were prepared and reinstated, further needle-gun work on the frames, wire brushing and the application of further coats of paint.

Ahead of the next volunteer working party which will take place this SATURDAY 19th FEBRUARY at Port St. Mary goods shed starting at 10.00am, here's a look at the progress made last weekend on the frames of No.5 including undercoating, needle-gun work and preparing surfaces for paint.  If you can help please contact granttaylor@manx.net or turn up on the day. 

LOOKING TOWARD OUR NEXT WORK DAY

As work progresses on the frames of No.5 ahead of the boiler being returned, our next volunteer work day is again open to all and will take place on SATURDAY 19th FEBRUARY at Port St. Mary goods shed from 10.00am.  Work will concentrate on using needle-guns on the inner frames as well as some aspects of reassembly and painting.  If you can help please get in touch with granttaylor@manx.net and we will be delighted to welcome you along.  These images show progress achieved last weekend.

VOLUNTEER WORKING DAY 12/02/22

Volunteers from the Association were again on hand at Port St. Mary yesterday as work continued on preparing No.5 for the boiler to be returned to the frames; a needle-gun was used extensively to prepare the inner frames which are now nearly ready for painting, while other volunteers were kept busy applying filler to small holes in the tanks and bunker, applying red oxide paint and undercoating the front and rear buffer beams.  The next party will be on SATURDAY 19th FEBRUARY from 10.00am, as ever please contact granttaylor@manx.net if you would like to help in our endeavours.

FIRST INITIAL VOLUNTEER WORK GROUP

The first small working group on the locomotive took place on 6th February and involved much preparation, removal of the motion, needle-gunning, sanding, undercoating and furthe preparation work including cleaning and clearing the goods shed. At present it is our intention to have the first open volunteer working party from 10.00am on SATURDAY 12th FEBRUARY 2022 in the goods shed at Port St. Mary.  The Association are very keen to advance this first phase of work so the reassembly can be completed. If you feel you can get involved with our work please contact granttaylor@manx.net for further information.  There is a substantial amount of work to be done before the boiler (in store at Port Erin) can be reunited with the frames and reassembly can take place.
